Flora Scales visited Preston, England, with her mother in 1945. Port of Weymouth Bay [BC025] was probably also painted during this visit to Dorset.
This is a drawing of St Andrew’s Church, a 14th-century building in the village of Preston near Weymouth, South Dorset, England. There are memorials in the churchyard to Scales’s maternal relatives. Scales's great grandfather, the Reverend Octavius Piers, was Vicar of Preston for thirty two years until his death in 1848, aged fifty-nine. There is a white marble tablet on black marble ground, on the North chancel wall to Octavius Piers, by 'Haggett'.
Image taken from 6x4 reproduction originally taken by B. de Lange, Rotorua Masonic Village, New Zealand, 1983. Flora Scales was a resident here from 26 October 1978 until just before her death in January 1985.
