‘Society of Arts’, Auckland Star, 22 May 1913, pg 7, “There are two small oils that might easily be passed over by the casual visitor, which would, however, well repay seeking out. No. 62, ‘In a Norfolk Farmyard’ and No. 144, ‘After a Day's Work’ by Flora Scales. Both are broadly treated, with a nice sense of colour, and the forms are harmoniously grouped. There is character in both pictures.”
