Exhibition reviews

Evening Post, 2 June 1932, pg 9, “A centre of interest in the exhibition will be a group of pictures above the dais. These are examples of modern or even ultra-modern, art; pictures which the very elite in the art world will claim to be far in advance of anything else shown in the exhibition…Near to [A Sketch for Composition by John Hutton] is St Tropez (101) in which Flora Scales has achieved an extraordinary kaleidoscopic effect with splashes of colour.” (The ‘group’ included work by Helen S. Blair, Christopher Perkins and Leslie Greener)

‘Academy’s Fine Autumn Show: A Modern Group’, Notes on the pictures by A.R.T., Dominion, Saturday 4 June 1932, pg 12, “St Tropez (101) by Flora Scales, a lively, unconventional landscape upon close study reveals a harmony of colour and arrangement, no doubt the outcome of much searching and sincerity.”
